From my personal experience, I think so. Ankit Fadia came to my college some years back for a talk on ethical hacking. He challenged us that he could hack any gmail account if they log in from his computer. I was interested in hacking and I had some half baked knowledge on the various tools and techniques used by hackers. So I volunteered for the challenge and decided to use one of my e-mail address which had a password 'thisissohardtocrack' (just for the irony of it ). I logged in and he used a keylogger (which was not even hidden and could have been detected by any anti virus) and displayed my password to the audience. Everyone went "wow". I don't know anything about hacking. But even a person like me was able to spot that he din know that much. That brought me to a conclusion that he was a pretty shitty hacker and a con man.
