Would make zero difference, the sections exist anyway because they are "good for SEO" so if you want to use them to attract new users then why penalise the posters. Looks like most people just want a scapegoat reason for the forum changing.

Better idea would be to restrict number of threads there daily, or implement a ratio system where they get less likes if all posts are in that section.
For example 100 likes normally = 100 likes but if over 25% of posts in the section then only 75 (for example).

Either way removing likes from the section isn't gonna solve the issue, band-aid solution at best.
