Boxing and scanning are methods used to manipulate package tracking, creating the illusion of a return to the seller, damage, or loss of the package. This altered tracking is known as FTID (Fake Tracking ID).

The main types of boxing include:

LIT (Lost in Transit) — A package status that indicates the package has been sent and is in transit. The label under the LIT method makes the package appear as if its address cannot be determined. A manual LIT can be detected and delivered, which creates risks. Unlike scanning, LIT has a higher chance of being noticed. For the store, this means that the return has been sent and is in transit.

FTIDv3 (Fake Tracking ID v3) — A status that indicates the package has been delivered. This is one of the most popular types of FTID used for return shipments. A package with an FTIDv3 label can be replaced with the original label, and the package itself can be damaged, lost, or delayed. For the store, this means the package is marked as delivered but was not scanned at the warehouse.

RTS (Return to Sender) — A status indicating that the package was not delivered to the recipient and is being returned to the sender. This type of FTID is used for a package sent to the store that was not delivered to the customer. For the store, this means the package is being returned for various reasons.

FTIDNA (Fake Tracking ID Not Arrived) — A status that indicates the package was delivered to a different address than originally intended. This is also known as reroute. This type of FTID is used when the package was not delivered to the customer and was rerouted to another address. For the store, this means the package was not delivered to the customer and was redirected to a different address.

Scanning involves changing the status of a package via the courier company's internal tracking system without physically sending the package. This method allows, for example, altering the package's status to "return to sender," "lost," "damaged," or "undeliverable," and using these statuses as arguments to claim reimbursement. Scanning is considered a more reliable method because it doesn't require physical shipment and carries fewer risks of detection.

Important info:

Not all courier services and not in all countries support all types of FTID due to technical limitations or the high risk of detection.

Relabel refers to the process where courier service employees replace an edited label with the original one during the delivery process.

Redrop refers to the resending of a label for a package.
