books vs internet

How good are books to start to learn coding. i cant really see how some people say go read books about coding.

 

Like u cant just read stuff and say OK i understand it.

 

You have to try those codes by yourself and see if they work. that's why i should suggest go to sites where they teach you how to code.

 

so whats the point of books? (a bit curious why people find this helpful.)

Generally I use a mix of both, sometimes I'm in signal dead-zones so I have to resort to using paperbacks (E.g. studying on holiday, stupid weddings to attend, etc). I learned to code from books as it just wasn't ever published online, but that is changing rapidly so I invested in a Kindle.
